Danielle & Derrick | Married | Church Landing, Meredith New Hampshire

Everything about Danielle and Derrick’s wedding day sparkled.  From the touches of glitter on her details; to her grandmother’s crystals on the bouquet; to the beautiful connection between this perfect couple;  there was an all around lovely glow to this wedding.  Danielle was positively radiant from beginning to end on her wedding day.  She was bursting with excitement to be marrying Derrick, but also completely calm and laid back about the little things.  She made getting married seem effortless.  Also, I’m just going to go ahead and say it, she’s drop dead gorgeous!  And so much of that beauty comes shining through from the inside.

Danielle and Derrick were married at Church Landing at Mills Falls in Meredith, NH.  There was on and off rain for most of the day but that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and we were still able to get out on the docks for some great pictures!  Both families have summer homes in Meredith and Danielle grew up spending her summers here.  It was a very special place for them to get married.  Missy and Fiona are the couple’s babies (mother and daughter toy poodles) and they were dressed for the occasion.

I know you will love this wedding as much as I did!

Courtney & Jay | Married | Backyard NH Wedding

Courtney and Jay were married on a gorgeous September day at Courtney’s grandparents’ campground.  The couple lives in NYC but knew they wanted to have their wedding at this very special place where Courtney and her family have been spending summers since her childhood.  This wedding had so many stylish and personal details.  It was a marvelous mixture of antiques and modern beauty.  I loved everything about this wedding. Courtney was not only gorgeous but calm and wonderful and kind.  She and Jay are a perfect pair.

Here is how Courtney described her wedding:

Growing up in CA we always spent the summer in NH at my grandparents’ house on Ayers Lake in NH.  I enjoyed summers on the farm fishing, swimming, canoeing etc.  When Jay and I started dating, I couldn’t wait to take him to NH.  The first time he visited was Christmas years. We spent time with my dad, siblings and grandparents.  Jay began to appreciate the tradition of the farm! We have so many special memories there at Ayers Lake.  We love to explore my grandmother’s antiques in the barn, listen to her stories about growing up there and truly enjoy the fresh NH air. So when it came time to pick a place to get married we had no reservations!  The farm is such a special place for us.  We are getting married on the inlet where I used to fish with my grandfather, siblings and cousins.  The birch Chuppa is from birch trees found on the property. Jay and his dad built it together this summer.  Jay’s mom even planted the garden by the ceremony.  We are incorporating so many family “touches” through the day. The cake topper was my grandparents’, Pat and Carolyn from 1950! Old milk jugs, crocks and boxes all came from out “digging” through the barn.  We found such great treasures when searching through the barn. My grandmother said some items had not been touched for 100 years!  It’s so fun to re-purpose the gems we found on the property.

Ten Years | Our Own Anniversary

Today is our 10 year wedding anniversary.  An entire decade!

Doug and I were married on a glorious September day, under an apple tree at my parents’ house, surrounded by so many special family and friends. We dodged Hurricane Isabelle only by a day and had to do most of the prep the morning of the wedding.  Luckily we have a large family that is good at getting things done…like setting up and covering 50 bales of hay!

It really is hard to believe that 10 full years have gone by.  So much has happened in that time and, as we often feel when we’re being reflective, it seems like just yesterday.  This has been the baby era for us.  We came home from our honeymoon in New Zealand and found out that I was pregnant with Asa.  We hadn’t even finished re-habbing our house yet and were excited to move in and get settled. Now that I think about it, we have spent the past 10 years of our lives, our entire marriage, either pregnant, or with a baby!  For almost ten years we have had a car seat and stroller in our car; a diaper bag packed; and a crib set up in the nursery. Incidentally, I have had very few nights without being woken for one reason or another.  No wonder I’m tired! I am sad to see the end of this stage of our lives and excited for the next.  No doubt the next decade will be filled with school activities, sports programs and busy schedules.

One of the things I love about being a wedding photographer is listening to the ceremony.  It’s always good to be reminded of the vows that people take and the words of wisdom that is shared in the sermons and readings.  Things like: don’t ever try to change the person that you are marrying; never go to bed angry; nobody is perfect; and that marriage requires 100% from both parties.   It is good to be reminded of that because it really is hard to do!  I have learned over the years that marriage is not easy.  Just like raising kids is not easy.  But it is most definitely worth it.  It is worth every ounce of hard work and sacrifice. For me, the joys far outweigh the hardships, and I never doubt for one second the life we have chosen.

We have both changed in the past 10 years but are still the best of friends.  We have stood by each other through career changes, health scares, joys and sorrows.  We have both made sacrifices for our children, as every parent does, because we know that they are the most important thing in this world.  We have moments of sheer frustration and overwhelmedness but they are tempered with monumental feelings of joy and satisfaction.  We look at our children, and our family as a whole, and can’t believe this is ours.  How lucky we are to have these beautiful, funny, remarkable beings in our lives. And how fortunate they are to have us. We are comforted knowing that even though they will someday leave and start families of their own, that they will always return home to us.  Our fantasy retirement dreams don’t consist of exotic vacations but of bustling holidays where we all are together.

I meant this to be a post about us but it has become about our kids.  That’s pretty much how things go around here so it’s only fitting!  This weekend Doug and I are going away to spend some time together and to celebrate our 10 years of marriage.  We have A LOT of catching up to do!  I am looking forward to having an entire conversation without being interrupted.  I am looking forward to a full weekend without dishes and laundry.  I am looking forward to seeing art, dining out, and holding hands.  I know that we will miss our kids like crazy, and probably talk about them and how much we miss them the whole time!  But hopefully we can reconnect and recharge too. We’re going to need it if we want to survive the next ten years!

So, to my husband; Happy Anniversary!  Happy noise, happy work, happy family, and happy us!  Here’s to ten more years of togetherness!  I love you as much as I did on our wedding day!

Ellie & Darren | Married | Holliston Historical Society

A lovely barn wedding, a “bicycle built for two” theme, and the prettiest lace dress you’ve ever seen! Ellie and Darren were married in Wellesley, MA at the same church where all the women on her side of the family have been married in.  Ellie also wore her Mom’s gorgeous veil which had beautiful ribbon hanging down in the back.   Their warm and  beautiful reception was held at the Holliston Historical Society, one of my favorite places to photograph weddings!

The bicycle built for two is significant to them for several reasons.  A few years ago they went on a trip to PA and spent some time riding bikes up and down the Delaware River.  Since then they thought how fun it would be to make a trip out of bike riding somewhere and decided to do that for their honeymoon!  This time they chose  the southern coast of Portugal!  Also, when Ellie as training for a half marathon (gulp) Darren would ride along beside her on her long runs to keep her company.  Their friends have been calling the pair “Dellie” from the beginning as they have been so close and obviously right for one another from the start.

There were so many sweet and personal little touches throughout this wedding.  I especially loved the vintage double bicycle that was set just outside the barn.  I am so excited to share just a few special moments from their wonderful day.
