Stuff I Love | Farms

Most people find peace by the water.  The ocean definitely has a soothing quality and certainly I love the calming effect of a lake.  But for me, farms have always been the most peaceful place.  There is something so soothing about being around barnyard animals.  There is a wonderful work ethic on a farm but not a frenzied rush as in our normal lives.  I like that.  There is order, and rhythm, and stillness.

This fall I have been spending lots of time with my youngest son while the older boys are in school.  It has been such a joy to be with him all alone, especially knowing that he is about to be bumped from the “baby” position.  He is at the wonderful age of two and a half.  Life is starting to make sense and he is able to express himself now in so many ways.  He makes me laugh so often.  He is obsessed with tractors, far more than our other two.  I don’t know where it comes from and how they’re just born with this love of machines but it’s in him.

Atticus and I have been visiting farms this fall.   Him to see tractors and I to find peace for myself.

Purple Cowboy boots

I love photographing this family.  They are loving and fun and it always shows in their portraits. Their daughter is the same age as my two year old and she is adorable!  Her mom said she can’t seem to get these purple boots off of her and I love that.  I think it’s so important to photograph kids being their true selves at that particular moment in their lives.  I have such vivid memories of my youngest brother when he was this age wearing a ski mask all the time.  I remember it far more than any particular outfit.

I love:

the purple cowboy boots

her sweet smile

the tiny freckle under her eye

soft kisses

tickles and giggles

Harrington Farm Wedding | Jennifer & Dan

Jennifer and Dan had just about the most perfect fall wedding day that a couple could hope for.  It was warm, colorful and sunny.  Add  in their beautiful Harrington Farm venue and you have a charming New England wedding.  I adored the baskets of pumpkins that were everywhere and the lovely porches on this old farmhouse.  Jen and Dan were such a joy to work with and be around.

I loved the bouquets by Ford Flower Company.

Even when you see each other prior to the ceremony it’s still a magical moment when the bride walks down the aisle.

LOVE this shot that my Mom grabbed during the ceremony.

Congratulations to a wonderful couple and a perfect day!

Stuff I Love | Fall

When I first started my blog I had grand visions of posting about wonderful new products and services that I liked.  It would be under the category “stuff I love” and it was going to be cutting edge.  Well, the problem with that is that it’s not really me.  What I actually love are the simpler things in life.  It’s just who I am.  So, here is my first post in my “stuff I love” category and it’s quite simple but it’s honest.

One of the things I love most about New England is the glorious fall days we get.  I don’t know if they seem sweeter because you know a long winter is ahead of you but they are crisp and warm and wonderful all at the same time.  They are also the time when we go apple picking.  This is definitely one of my favorite activities and we tend to get overrun with apples because we like to pick them so much.

So, for now, I’ll leave the groundbreaking announcements to someone else and we’ll enjoy our apple crisp!
