Maternity Session | Kate Preftakes Photography

Before I head off on my adventure with the boys I thought I’d leave you with a few pictures from a recent maternity session.  This beautiful mom is so fun to be around and I had an instant connection with her.  This is her third baby and she doesn’t know what she’s having!  I am brimming with anticipation and can’t wait to hear the news!!

As it turns out, her father is an amazing jeweler and made these pieces for her to wear on her wedding day.  The pearls are not dyed–they really are that beautiful golden color.  Just lovely.

This is a favorite of mine.  I love her laugh.

April Vacation | Part One

It’s April vacation week here and I’ve been super busy keeping the boys occupied!  I decided to document our vacation and here’s what I have so far.  This is a small part of each day and, man, now I know why I’m so tired every night!

We’ve been…..learning science,

eating ice cream,

watching Asa start baseball season,

dyeing,

decorating,

climbing,

playing,

cleaning up Mother Earth,

crafting,

shopping for the world’s fastest shoes,

getting much needed haircuts (but not for Atti because I still can’t bring myself to do it),

playing some more,

visiting Dad at work,

and dining out at super fancy restaurants!

Whew, it’s only Thursday and I’m beat!  Today we get to hang with some  dear friends and visit a farm.  On Saturday I’m taking Asa and Finn to Florida to visit my grandfather.  I’ll be posting more on that when I return.  I hope everyone has a great week!

Life’s A [swimming] Lesson

Every week Asa and Finley go to swim lessons.  Every week it’s the same story.  They don’t want to go.  The pool is too cold.  They don’t want to stop what they’re doing and switch gears.

Every week we tell them that once they get there they always love it.  We tell them that they have each other.  We tell them that we’ll be watching them and that we are so proud of the swimmers they have become.

The truth is, once they are in the pool, they never stop smiling.  And we tell them that they will make the biggest splash of anyone when they get to jump in at the end.  And they always do.

Life feels like a swimming lesson to me.  It’s hard to stop what feels comfortable and jump in a cold pool.  It’s hard to push yourself to do new things.  But it sure is nice to feel like you have someone by your side while you’re doing it.  And it definitely feels good to make that big splash at the end.  Even if the only person watching is you.

Mandi | Maternity Session

Mandi is gorgeous.

Mandi is fun to be around.

Mandi is having a baby.

I like to imagine that if J. Crew had a maternity line this is what their catalog would look like!

Mandi, you will be a wonderful mother!  XOXO

April Mini Sessions!

Every year I do at least one charity event and this year I am donating the proceeds from the spring mini-session day to the Pine Hill Child Care Center.  It’s a wonderful, non-profit, Waldorf  school where my kids have been going for years.  I love their philosophy and nurturing atmosphere.

I have just a few spots left so let me know ASAP if you’d like to sign up.  The Center is having a spring faire while the photo sessions are happening so your kids can play on the playground and enjoy the activities!

Looking forward to seeing you there and keeping my fingers crossed for a nice spring day!!
